Thank you all for yur help and co-operation at the event!!
From May 8 to 11, four members of the executive committee visited Ishimaki
and Rikuzen Takada, two of the areas stricken by the earthquake and tsunami.
There, they delivered books, sports goods, clothing, food, and other gifts, as well
as the Care Packages, containing stationery, toys and sweets in bags hand-sewn
by women of Kamakura.
We are happy to announce that the Kamakura Children’s Charity Event raised a
total of 1,053,953yen. Thank you to all who contributed in any way.
The breakdown is as follows:
Donations solicited in front of Kamakura Station: 401,750yen
Donation box contents on May 3: 101,547yen
Money raised on May 3 event: 339,861yen
Remittances donation:175,795yen
Cash donation: 35,000yen
Total: 1,053,953yen
After much consideration about the best way to distribute these funds so they
will directly benefit children survivors of the disaster, we decided to donate all the
money to two separate organizations, as follows.
World Vision Japan: 152,693yen
Taiyou Gakuen: 900,000yen
Remittance fees: 1,260yen
Total:1,053,953yen
Taiyou Gakuen, located in Ofunato City, is an orphange which is looking after
many of the children who lost both parents in the Tohoku diaster. We were able
to visit their facilities on our recent visit, and feel the wonderful work they are
doing is a worthy cause to support.
The funds will be used to house children in a new group home, which will be on
higher ground than the present facilities.
Their website is: http://www.taiyokai.or.jp/index.html
About World Vision: World Vision Japan is an NPO which has been directly involved in helping children survivors of the Tohoku disaster. After seeing their "Child Friendly Space", which was set up for these children, the executive committee decided to support their activities shortly after the disaster struck.
We will give more details about World Vision Japan at a later date after we hear
how they will use the funds.
